Build a 3D Rainforest Homework

Task:
To produce a 3-dimensional rainforest.

You need to include:

  • The different layers of the rainforest e.g. canopy, emergent trees, shrub layer
  • The plants that live there
  • The animals that live there e.g. insects, reptiles, mammals and birds

You also need to show or explain the following:

  • How the animals and plants interact (the food web)
  • An explanation of how rainfall occurs in tropical rainforests
  • You can do this seperately on paper or include it on your 3D model.

Preferably your model should be no bigger than A3 so that you will be able to transport your maodel yo school and display it easily within the classroom.

Optional ideas:

  • Add a river to your model
  • Add human settlements to your model


Settlement Homework Project

Task:
To choose a settlement which you would like to investigate - it could be where you live or it could be somewhere you are interested in.

You should include:

A map of your settlement, that must be fully annotated (descriptive labels).

On your map you must also show:
  • Different types of housing (e.g. terraced, flats, semi-detached etc.) and their age (e.g. Victorian, 1930'w, 1960s, modern etc.)
  • Types of land use (shopping centres, high street shopping areas, farm land, industrial estates etc.)
  • Any famous landmarks (e.g. Big Ben, Elland Road Football Stadium)
  • Public Buildings (e.g. Museums, galleries, town hall etc.)
You must also produce a factfile about your settlement.
You should include 10 facts or more about your settlement e.g. how many people live there, what country it is in, how has the settlement changed over time, important events that may take place there. Etc.

Extreme Weather Homework


Aim:
To create a project informing a class of Year 6's about extreme weather.

Objectives:

  • Research types pf extreme weather e.g. (Thunderstorms and flash floods, lightening storms, hail storms, hurricanes, tornadoes and heat waves.)
  • Use a world map to show where they tend to occur
  • Explain using photos, diagrams and writing, why they occur
  • Explain how they can be measured or predicted
  • Describe and explain the effects of at least 2 of the extrem weather types researched. Think about the natural, economic, social and political effects
  • Use as many different sources of information as possible (newspaper reports, internet and books etc.)

British Isles Tour Brochure Homework

Aim:
To create a tour of the British Isles for a family of four visiting from overseas.
The tour could be in the format of a pamphlet or a brochure.

Objectives:

  • Refer to all the countries that make up the British Isles (England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland)

  • Use maps, pictures and diagrams to illustrate your writing.

  • Activities should be varied (historical, leisure, outdoors, entertainment, shoppping, accommodation etc.)

  • You must use as many different sources of information as possible (internet, books, tourist brochures etc.)

  • Finally, your description of what to do must be persuasive and in your OWN words.
    (You MUST make your research your own!)

An Atlas of my World! Homework


Aim:
To create an atlas of the world you live in, to enable someone (or something...) else to live your life.

Objectives:
  • Create an atlas containing information about where you live - country, county, city - maps of these areas would help locate your home.
  • An aerial plan of your bedroom - where are things in it? Draw the plan properly with a key and a title.
  • Sketch map of your route to school - what do you pass on the way? How do you travel?
    What subjects do you do at school? Pick a day in your timetable and use colours, pictures and symbols to represent each subject - making sure that you have a key!
  • After school and at weekends, are there any places you like to go, or people you like to visit? These can be nearby or relatives that live along way away.
  • Future dream destination - pick anywhere in the worl that you would like to visit and using a map, show where it is. Explain to the reader WHY you would like to go, what you imagine it to be like and how you would travel there.
  • Drawings and pictures would help to make this a very special final page.
